Club History
. The move from private to club coaching led to the need for more club sessions and members. Desegregation resulted in the addition, in the early seventies, of boys to the Mermaid and Hampstead Clubs. Whilst Priory, a boys swimming club, took in girls to become Camden SC, later to merge to form Camden-Hampstead SC. Nine local clubs were competing for pool time and members at the Swiss Cottage Centre (opened in 1964) and with a Borough leadership unsympathetic to competitive swimming, both Hampstead and Mermaid-Marlin turned to private pools - respectively Highgate School (now the Mallinson Centre) and the Shell Centre.
