Alex Mackay (17), has just returned from France with a Bronze Medal after representing GB in the 5 km French Open Water Cup in Creil near Paris. This excellent result was followed by a 12th place (4th British Athlete) in a 5km sea swim in the French Championships at Roquebrune near Monaco.
Mark Perry, National Open Water Performance Manager said of the swim at Roquebrune, “this event was the French trials for both their World Championship and European Junior teams, in addition to attracting international athletes from Luxembourg, Switzerland and Spain. With several Olympians and a field of senior swimmers the British junior contingent were very professional and had obviously learnt from their first event in Creil.”
Alex is part of the British Gas Development Open Water Team, the squad comprises of 23 swimmers and is part of an initiative to develop the sport further after the British successes in Beijing.
