Day three at the French nationals see an amazing breakthrough for Alain Bernard the French Olympic gold medalist on the 100m freestyle as he re gained the title of world fastest swimmer with a sensational 46.96.
The main question now is will the record stand?
Bernard was wearing Arena X-Glide, not yet approved by FINA (The world governing body)
So the answer, technically, must be "No". It cannot. The rules governing suits clearly state that a suit must be approved by FINA for a world record to stand. The international federation now faces a dilemma.
We will have to wait and see
