Swiss swimmers perform on day one of the British Championships
15 old Felix Samuels swam a personal best 23.96 in the 50m freestyle to finish the fastest boy in his age group. Although pleased with knocking half a second off his time and narrowly beating his rivals Steven King (24.02) and David Godridge (24.04) Felix still felt a little disappointed as he missed the British Age group record by the smallest of margins 4 one hundredths of a second. His time however does set new Regional, county and club records.
Bogac Ayhan was also in outstanding form on the 200m butterfly finishing in 2.07.75 to finish second in his age group. Taking the race out in a blistering 27.6 and 59.18 at the 100m see him just tie up on the last 20m to be edged into second place by one hundredth of a second to Steven Van De Schootbrugge from city of Oxford. Bogac as Felix did has also set new Regional, county and club records. Director of swimming Dave Hobbs was pleased with the swim and feels it won’t be long before we are looking for 2.05 off that sort of pace. He went on to say we had originally set a goal of 2.08 for the end of the season but spoke in Geneva back in January saying he was ready to hit that target at these trials.
Ed Walsh who was also swimming the 50m freestyle swam 23.66 in the heats that placed him 18th but gained a semi final swim when two swimmers withdrew. His swim of 23.58 in the semi final has gained him 8th place in tonight’s (Tuesday) final.
Devon Robbins swimming in her first ever British championship swam 63.51 on the 100m butterfly narrowly missing her PB but gaining the experience of swimming in the same heat as Olympian Fran Halsall.
