Guidelines for Parents at CSCSC.
At Camden Swiss Cottage we encourage parents and guardians whenever possible to watch and support their children when racing, training or having lessons. However if you are not going to be present please ensure you read below and fully understand your responsibilities while you are not present during their lesson, coaching session or competition.
LESSONS & COACHING SESSIONS
Before dropping your child off for training or lessons wait a few moments to ensure that the training session or lesson is going ahead. Likewise it now club policy that parents are present to collect their child prior to the end of each training session or estimated finishing time for competitions.
Ensure that your child has adequate funds and a contact number to make any calls if the session is stopped early.
CSCSC strongly recommends that ALL CHILDREN are collected by an adult
GALA & COMPETITIONS
Ensure that your child is being collected from the gala venue in ample time
Coaches are responsible for the children during the gala sessions whilst on the poolside. As parents you are responsible once your child leaves the poolside.
You are responsible for your child during session breaks in the gala.
Those parents who chose to leave the gala should ensure they have delegated responsibility for their child to another adult and inform their child of this.
Please be aware that the gala may finish early and parents should take this into consideration if are going to collect your children at the end of the gala.
CSCSC recommends that ALL CHILDREN are collected by an adult
FURTHER GUIDELINES FOR PARENTS AT CSCSC.
Interfering and distracting your child during the session by attempting to coach them is unhelpful. It sends mixed messages to the swimmers. Let the coaches’ coach so let the parents be a parent!
Always refrain from adversely and openly criticising other swimmers in our club among other parents. This increases tension and problems around poolside, and is not appropriate within the training environment and without doubt decreases our clubs’ potential. Applaud and support the achievements of all our swimmers successes regardless of the level at which they compete.
Always keep things in perspective with your child’s’ swimming abilities. The younger the swimmer, the more mistakes are made. The older the swimmer, the higher level of regret is felt after poor swims. It’s the harder option to be positive in negative circumstances but try to keep emotionally dislocated from the situation. It’s not easy, but let the positives outweigh the negatives heard and this will rectify part of the problem highlighted. The swimmer will seek parental support from their parent not a coaching one. Do not only allow the coach to play your parental role because you’ve not been supportive enough.
Take an interest with your child’s swimming. We now expect from the swimmers to record all their competitive times though the year. These forms have been provided by the club and are available through your child’s coach.
Encourage your child to monitor their competitive progress through the year. This serves as great feedback to you how competitive performances are improving, highlights trends and identifies how key events are shaping up. How can the swimmer know their competitive future if you don’t know your competitive history?
When receiving competition entry forms we expect entry forms to be clearly completed with entry times and returned to your child’s coach before the closing date. The club’s Administration team will no longer accept late entry forms or complete entry forms over the telephone.
Enquiries
Regarding your child’s progress and competitions please talk with your child’s Coach, either at the beginning or end of the session, not while they are coaching. We are sorry but Coaches are not available on the phone unless they have personally given you their number.
