Well done to Kelly Hookway, Alex Peake, Alex Burgess, Ed Graham, Ensger Kotterink and Bogac Ayhan for representing our club at the National BAGCATs in late July (British Age Groups).
KELLY AND BOGAC WIN MEDALS
Kelly (11) and Bogac (14) swam brilliantly to win medals at the meet, which was held in the 50m Pond’s Forge Pool in Sheffield.
Kelly made the final of 100m free with a best time of 1.04.71, then went on to surpass all expectations to win a stunning silver medal in 1.03.81. She also made the final of the 200m IM, in which she was 6th in another best time of 2.39.32. She also swam in 200m free.
Bogac competed in 5 events and produced his best swim in his last race. He won bronze in the 100m fly final in an outstanding time of 59.06. He finished in 4th place, but as the winner was a guest competitor from Dubai, Bogac took the bronze as the 3rd British club swimmer. He was 4th in 100m back in 1.03.16 and 6th in 200m fly (5th British club swimmer) in 2.14.59. His heat swim in the 200m fly was a best of 2.12.30. Bogac also swam in 200m back and 200m free.
Ensger Kotterink, also 14, was just behind Bogac in the 100m fly final in 1.00.59 (4th from a British Club) but finished a place higher than him in the 200m fly final in 2.14.08 (4th British Club swimmer), after a heat swim of 2.13.62. Ensger also competed well in 100m and 200m free, 200m and 400m individual medley, setting bests in 100m free (56.76) and 400m medley (4.58.26).
Three more swimmers capped a great season by qualifying for the National Age Groups for the first time. Alex Peake (12) did extremely well in Sheffield, making the final of the 12 years 200m breaststroke and finishing 5th in 2.49.81. Edward Graham swam a great best of 9.11.08 for 17th in 800m free and he also swam in 1500m free. Alex Burgess (13) was 25th in 800m free in 9.26.52, an impressive personal best.
