On Sunday 1st June while many of Top Squad members were pushing their PBs to new heights 73 of our Development, Intermediate and Club swimmers were making waves at Swiss.
62 of the swimmers were 12 years and under with 17 in the nine year and under category of which 8 were 8 year olds. Each swimmer entered two 200m events.
Eleven swimmers took gold in both of their events. A standout performance was by Archie Moat (12) in IM with a 17.87 second PB swimming in 2:42.34. His second gold was in Breaststroke.
Other double golds were Chloe Ramambason (13) in IM and Free; Theo Ellis Sopel (10) Back and Breast; Olivia Willis (10) in IM and Breast; Tamir Cohen Gonen (11) Back and Free (2:49.85); Billy Bradley in Free and Fly (with an 8 sec PB in 2:49.00); Benjamin Hales (13) Back ( 17.14 PB in 2:50.63) and Breast; Matthew Barratt Hodgson (14) Fly and Free (9.59 PB in 2:30.54); Saffron Coyle (13) Fly and Breast (4.58 PB in 3:18.16); Isabelle Matthews (9) Breast and Free; and Charlotte Woodhams (12) Back and IM.
Swimmers taking a single gold were: Rosie Allen (12) 200 Free; Hannah Drew (13) 200 Back; Terence Fawden (9) 200 IM; Joshua Gaventa (13) 200 IM; Ben Hatch (10) 200 IM; Martha Libri (11) 200 IM; Sophie Panteli (11) 200 Breast; Tudor Puszett (11) 200 IM; Gregory Rollo-Walker (11) 200 Back; and Julia Wilkinson (10) 200 Back.
Swimming is a family affair at Swiss and three sets of siblings to note at this gala are: the Matthews, Schlichters and the Panthakees.
The Matthews took home five medals and 5 PBs. Indigo (8) took gold in Free with 3:26.75, Bronwyn (10) gold in Free 3:04.04 and silver in Breast, and Jesse (12) gold in Fly 2:59.29 and silver in Breast with a 29.82 PB in 3:12.53. Xerxes (11) and Yohann Panthakee (8) won three medals between them. Xerxes taking gold in Breast and silver in IM and Yohann in Free with 3:30.00 took gold. While the Schlichter brothers, Felix (12) and Peter (10) won 4 medals; each taking a gold, Felix in 200 Back with a 22.24 PB in 3:10.75 and Peter in 200 Free in 3:23.33.
The remaining 6 eight year olds and their fantastic swims are: Isobel Davidson’s Breaststroke 4:55.88; Segev Cohen Gonen’s Back took gold in 3:46.41 and Free took silver in 3:36.46; Ned Harris’ Back took silver in 4:14.24; Omar Lingemann’s Free 4:31.12; Sebastian Maskrey took gold in Breast in 4:00.07; Rory McKinnon placed 2nd in Breast in 4:14.97.
We cannot finish the report without mentioning outstanding PBs.
Two to note are Alexander Plehn’s 41.72 second PB in his Free in 3:24.6 and Lucas Raschka’s 70.60 PB also in Free in 3:13.88, to take silver and gold respectively in the 12 year old category.
