Four County Champions from Camden Swiss
At the Middlesex short course Championships in Enfield, awards were given in 3 age categories: Open; Junior (under 17) and under 15.
ALEX AND HARRY RULE THE WAVES
Alex Mackay (15) won 4 Open and Junior Championships, setting outstanding PBs in 200m, 400m and 1500m free (1.59.93, 4.08.62 and 16.18.97) and in 400m IM (4.38.53). Alex was 2nd Junior in 100m free and 3rd Junior in 100m fly.
Harry Needs, also 15, won 2 Open and Junior Championships in 200m IM and 200m breaststroke (brs), just beating his previous best in the breaststroke with 2.29.25. He added Junior trophies in 50m brs, 50m and 100m fly, 100m IM and 200m back (2nd open competitor in these except the 200m back in which he finished as 3rd open swimmer). Harry was 2nd open and junior in 100m brs and 800m free and 3rd open in 400m IM (2nd Junior).
In the 50m fly final Harry swam a new best of 26.91. With 10 individual events and 5 extra finals, 4 relays and 7 x 50m sprints in the medley skins, Harry did extremely well to be within a second of his best time in most of his 26 swims.
JESSICA AND ED ARE COUNTY CHAMPS TOO
In winning 800m and 1500m freestyle in 9.49.51 and 19.03.45, Jessica Hobbs (13) actually swooped 6 County titles (2 open/2 Junior/2 Under 15). She was 3rd overall in 400m free (1st Junior and U/15). In the U/15 age group she was 2nd in 100m and 200m back and 3rd in 200m free.
Ed Walsh won the open 50m breaststroke and 100m IM, the latter in a best of 1.01.51 and was 3rd in the open 50m fly final in 27.34, just touched out by Harry although he set a best of 27.02 in the heat.
DEVON, FELIX AND ENSGER - JUNIOR CHAMPIONS
Devon Robins and Felix Samuels (both 14) also had a very busy weekend. Devon swam 17 individual races including 7 finals, Felix swam 16 including 6 finals, they both did well in relays for the club and also took part in the medley skins. It is all the more commendable that they still managed to put in some impressive times and become Middlesex Junior Champions.
Devon was in great form, finishing 2nd in 5 open events (50m/100m fly, 50m/100m brs and 100m IM) and taking 3 Junior titles and U/15 wins in the 50m/100m fly and 50m brs. Her fly times were new PBs of 31.66 and 1.08.10. She also won the U/15 100m brs and 100m IM (finishing 2nd open and 2nd junior in both). Devon added 2nd Junior in 200m IM and 2nd U/15 in 200m IM, 50m back and 100m free (with a fast best of 1.02.82).
Felix won the Junior and U/15 50m and 100m free in times of 25.96 and 56.67, with a best of 56.24 in his 100m heat. In 200m free he set a stunning PB of 2.04.08 for 2nd Junior behind Alex Mackay and 1st U/15. He was equal 3rd Junior and equal U/15 winner in 50 fly (28.92) and was 2nd in the U/15 100m fly, 100m and 200m IM and 3rd in the U/15 200m fly and 100m back.
13 year old Ensger Kotterink also became Junior County Champion in 200m fly (2nd open and 1st U/15) in 2.21.30. He was 2nd Junior in 100m fly/100m IM and 3rd Junior in 200m IM in 2.18.99 (winning the U/15 award for all 3). He added 2nd in the U/15 100m free.
BOGAC GOES THE DISTANCE
Bogac Ayhan, also 13, managed to achieve 13 PBs from 16 swims and excelled over all distances, from powerful 50m sprints to improvements over 400m and 1500m free. He was 2nd Junior and U/15 in 200m fly to Ensger and was equal 3rd Junior and U/15 winner (with Felix) in 50m fly in 28.92. He finished 2nd in the U/15 1500m free and 50m back.
Other County winners for Camden Swiss in the U/15 age group were Naomi Wakeham-Aredes (200m breaststroke and 50m free), Lucas Perry-Hill (50m and 100m breaststroke) and Iao Pok Wong (50m back).
