A large contingent of Camden Swiss Cottage Swimmers qualified for the first weekend of the British Gas Age Group Championship at Crystal palace.
They made their presence felt, reaching 23 finals and bagging 18 medals, 5 of which were golds and along the way picked up a London region record.
Camden’s Golden girls were the 4 by 100m freestyle and individual medley team with a clean sweep of golds. The 4 by 100m freestyle team of Poppy Chappel (12), Olivia Willis (12), Amelia Brown (13) and Kelly Hookway (13) set a new London Regional record in a blistering 4.18.40s. Tamir Gohen Cohen switched with Amelia for the 4 by 100m individual medley as the quartet finished first in 4.49.23s.
Relay stars Kelly Hookway (13) and Oliva Willis (12) had an outstanding meet picking up 7 Championship medals between them. Kelly won the 100m freestyle in 1.01.84s, finished second in the 200m individual medley 2.32.37s and third in the 100m butterfly 1.08.46s. Olivia collected silver in the 200m breaststroke and individual medley in 2.58.93s and 2.41.40s and bronze in the 100m butterfly 1.13.97s and 200m backstroke 2.37.49s.
Emily House (11) continued her impressive season with two championship wins in the 100m freestyle 1.04.86s and 200m individual medley 2.43.37s and a bronze in the 100m butterfly 1.14.53s. Indigo Mathews (10) was another young lady that needed a large bag to take home her haul of medals, a silver in the 400m freestyle 5.22.29s and two bronze in the 100m butterfly 1.22.36s and 100m freestyle 1.11.77s.
Camden’s other medal winners were Robert Dos Santos (11) a silver in the 100m freestyle 1.13.97 plus a National Qualifying Time in the 200m breaststroke, Billy Bradley (13) bronze in the 200m breaststroke 2.52.77s and bronze for the 4 by 100m boys relay team of Tudor Puszet (13), Billy Bradley (13), Jesse Mathews (14) and Alex Peake (14).
Mark Allen, coach commenting on first weekend of the London Championships said “This was a fantastic team effort and I am sure that next weekend the team will continue to build on the successes they have already achieved.”
