Congratulations to Masters Swimmer Lucy Francis, age 41, who has just completed the gruelling Lanzarote Ironman Triathlon.
The Ironman competition combines a 2.4 mile swim, a 112 mile bike ride and a full 26 mile marathon run. The Lanzarote Ironman is regarded as the toughest ronman competition in the world. Lanzarote is renowned for its very strong winds and the cycling section involves 255 m. of climbing over active volcanoes.
Of the 1284 competitors from all over the world who completed the race, only 113 were women. Lucy completed the race in 15 hours 24 minutes. Her times for each discipline were: swim - 1 hour 22 minutes, bike - 8 hours 46 minutes, run - 4 hours, 57 minutes.
