It was a successful weekend for Camden Swiss Cottage Swimming club as a team of 42 swimmers travelled north to compete in the City of Coventry Long Course Open Meet (50 meter pool) against 18 other teams in a highly competitive meet.
The Camden team didn’t disappoint and picked up a total of 76 medals, 21 of which were gold. This fantastic medal haul saw the team pick up the top club award.
Emily House (11) was in blistering form, collecting 5 golds and 2 silvers and 3 National qualifying times to add to the 3 already under her belt. Her golds came in the 400m and 100m freestyle in a blistering 5.00.04s (NQT 5.01.71s) and 1.06.44s (NQT 1.06.60s), 100m and 50 m backstroke in 1.18.65s and 37.55s plus the 200m individual medley in a time of 2.42.61s (NQT 2.43.14s). Emily finished second in the 200m freestyle and 100m butterfly in 2.23.80s (NQT 2.24.12s) and 1.17.28s.
12 year olds Olivia Willis was also on fire picking up a significant medal haul – 3 golds, 3 silver and a bronze. Olivia’s golds came in the 50m, 100m and 200m breaststroke in 39.54s, 1.22.88s and 2.57.53s. The 100m and 200m breaststroke times were a finger tip touch away from National qualifying times.
Amelia Brown (13) touched in 1.03.46s in the 100m freestyle, oh! so close to her NQT. There was a silver for Amelia in the 50m freestyle in 29.57s.
Not to be out done by the girls, Billy Bradley (13) who was busy collecting 2 golds in the 100m breaststroke in 1.21.06s and the 50m freestyle in 28.00s, a silver in the 200m breaststroke in 2.55.91s and 4 bronze medals in 50m and 100m butterfly in 30.89s and 1.10.47s, 200m and 400m freestyle in 2.14.56s and 4.43.63s.
Vincent Neves (14) put in a strong swim to finished first in the 400m freestyle in 4.35.80s. Development swimmer James Booth (9) at his first long course event had a terrific meet finishing first in the 200m breaststroke 3.51.16s and collecting 3 bronze medals in the 50m, 200m and 400m freestyle in 38.87s, 3.08.04s and 6.44.71s. Charles Smith (9) also a development swimmer finished first in the 200m backstroke 3.18.34s and second in the 50m backstroke and 200m freestyle in 43.23s and 3.05.43s.
Mark Allen, coach commenting on the weekends results said “This was a fantastic team effort, the President of the Coventry Swimming Club commented on the spirit among the athletes. The meet is good preparation for the London Regions in June. The most pleasing aspect for me was that for many of our younger development swimmers this was their first experience of a long course event and they acquitted themselves brilliantly.”
