The County is looking to appoint one or more Team Managers to assist the County Coach with the following events:-
• The County Development Day. Selected swimmers attend a full day of training, usually held in September at Southbury Road Pool. Some years, a second County Training Day may also be scheduled.
• The Inter-Counties Competition. A County team of 24 swimmers attends the ASA Inter-Counties Competition in October, usually at Ponds Forge in Sheffield. This is a full weekend commitment.
• The County Overseas Camp. Selected swimmers attend an International competition in Europe, over a weekend with additional travel on Friday/Monday as necessary. This does not happen every year.
The Team Manager will be expected to attend each of the above events, as part of the team.
The position of Team Manager is an unpaid appointment. Transportation, accommodation and meals are provided, and any additional expenses may be claimed in line with standard County procedures.
The Team Manager(s) appointed must be CRB cleared through the ASA (i.e. designated as CRB cleared on the ASA Child Protection List). They should have attended, or be in the process of attending, the ASA training course for Team Managers. They should have signed the ASA Code of Conduct. They should have read and understood the ASA “Safe Sport Away” document.
In detail, the duties of the Team Manager are envisaged to be as follows:-
1. To work under the control of the County Coach.
2. To notify team members of their selection.
3. To obtain consent from parents/guardians to hold emergency contact details for all participants, subject to the provisions of the Data Protection Act, and ensure such details are also available to the County Coach and County Secretary.
4. To notify the hotel/caterer of any special dietary requirements.
5. To ensure team members know of travel and accommodation arrangements.
6. To travel and be with the team on all activities including training/land training/team meetings/outings, unless needing to remain behind with ill/injured swimmers.
7. To attend staff meetings called by the County Coach.
8. To inform the staff of any concerns about swimmers’ welfare, behaviour or other personal problems.
9. To ensure swimmers are at team meetings, training sessions and other group activities on time.
10. To ensure swimmers are up in the mornings and monitor that they are in their rooms after curfew.
11. To carry first aid kit (provided by County) and deal with minor injuries.
12. To seek appropriate medical advice where necessary.
13. To remain with swimmers whilst seeking medical help, and if necessary attend hospital, and remain with any ill or injured swimmers while in hospital. To contact parents/guardians as necessary.
14. In extreme cases, be willing to accompany swimmers home early, or remain behind until parents/guardians arrive. This may be abroad in the case of Overseas Camps.
15. To look after any swimmer’s medication.
16. To collect in for safekeeping all passports, and, where requested, travellers’ cheques.
17. On returning, to ensure that swimmers are collected by parents/guardians/designated adults, and stay with them until they are collected.
