It was a busy weekend for Camden Swiss Cottage Swimming club, with swimmers competing at two galas.
A strong team of 58 swimmers, traveled East to the City of Cambridge Swimming Club open meet to compete against 20 other teams in a highly competitive meet. The Camden team didn’t disappoint and picked up a total of 82 medals, 26 of which were gold.
The girls led the way, Emily House (10) had a golden touch winning all of her five events, 400m and 100m individual medley in a blistering 5.49.92s and 1.18.83s , 400m and 50 m freestyle in 5:11.61s and 31.86s plus the 200m backstroke in a time of 2.49.49s.
Another of Camden’s 10 year olds on fire was Indigo Mathews who picked up a significant medal haul – 3 golds, 4 silver and a bronze. Indigo’s golds came in the 200m freestyle in a time of 2.37.06s, 200m butterfly in 3.08.58s and 200m breaststroke in 3.25.28s.
Other multi medalist were Kelly Kookway (13) with two golds in the 400m freestyle and 200m individual medley and three silvers in 100m butterfly and backstroke and the 200m freestyle.
Jessica Hobbs also collected 5 medals, gold in 400m individual medley and 200m backstroke and silver in the 200m freestyle, individual medley and 50m freestyle.
Olivia Willis (12) was also busy picking up nine medals a gold in the 200m freestyle and six silvers in the 100m breaststroke, backstroke and freestyle; 200m individual medley and breaststroke, 400m and 50m freestyle and a bronze in the 100m backstoke.
Not to be out done the boys star performance was Hok Iao Wong (11) who was busy collecting three golds in the 400m individual medley in 5.43.68s, 200m freestyle in 2.21.85s and 100m breaststroke in1.29.42s, a silver in the 200m breaststroke in 3.07.99s and bronze in 50m freestyle in 30.79s.
Scott Broadis (14) picked up a two golds 100m and 200m breaststroke in1.13.17s and 2.38.04s a sliver in the 100m individual medley in 1.08.17s and bronze in the 200m and 400m individual medley in 5.07.63s and 2.24.02s.
Robert Dos Santos (11) swam to gold in the 100m butterfly, silver in the 100m individual medley and bronze in the 400m freestyle and 200m butterfly.
Leo Jaggs (15) was also a multi medalist with a gold in the 100m backstroke and silver in the 200m backstroke and 100m breaststroke.
Mark Allen, coach commenting on the weekends results said “Overall I’m very pleased with how the team performed, especially as we had so many younger swimmers qualifying for the event. The Cambridge gala is great preparation for the Middlesex County championships in a month’s time..”
