A team of 47 Camden Swiss Cottage swimmers competed at the Middlesex Winter Championships at the weekend.
Three categories of awards are given at the championships: one for 14 years and under, Junior (14-16) and an open section.. Camden reached 50 finals and bagged 24 medals and the cup for best female team.
Devon Robins (16) had an outstanding meet picking up the cup for best female junior and open swimmer. Devon picked up seven gold medals and one silver. The gold winning performances came with a clean sweep in the butterfly events, 50, 100 and 200 meters with times of 29.04s, 1.03.53s and 2.20.85s; in the 200, 400 and 800 meter freestyle in 2.05.97s, 4.22.99s and 9.15.41s respectively and the 400 meters individual medley in 5.02.01s. Devon’s superb weekend was topped off with 5 of these swims gaining her national qualifying times.
Edward Graham (16) picked up three golds and a silver. Ed reached the top of the podium in the 800 (8.42.39s) and 1500 (16.38.07s) meters freestyle and the 400 meter individual medley in 4.51.80s.
Other Camden swimmers picking up medals were: Scott Broadis (14) gold 200m breaststroke, bronze 800m freestyle, Alex Burgess (14) silver 400m individual medley, bronze 400m freestyle, Tamsin McKinnon (13,) gold 50m breaststroke, bronze 100m breaststroke, Lucas Perry-Hill (16) bronze 50 and 200m breaststroke, Sarah Taylor-Reid (14) bronze 400m individual medley and 100m breaststroke, Jessica Hobbs (15), gold 1500m freestyle, silver 800m freestyle, bronze 100, 200, 400 meters freestyle, Kelly Hookway (13) Silver 1500m freestyle, bronze 100m individual medley and 100m butterfly, Emily House (10) bronze 200m butterfly, Naiomi Wakenham-Ardes (16) Silver 200m breaststroke, 200m individual medley, bronze 200m backstroke and 800m freestyle and Iao Pok Wong (15) Silver 50m backstroke.
Dave Hobbs, Head Coach commenting on the weekends results said “Overall I’m very pleased with how the team performed. The athletes have had a great start to the season on which they can build for the Middlesex age and youth events in February and March.”
