76 Camden Swiss Cottage Swimmers took part in the Middlesex County ASA Development Gala at Southbury Road in Enfield. For many of the clubs younger swimmers this was their first experience of a big meet and didn’t they do well! 39 speeding tickets, 103 medals - 40 of which were gold; plus hundreds of personal bests (PB’s).
Dave Hobbs head coach was delighted, “this is the start of the season and this is a great platform for these young athletes to build on.”
Amongst the many dazzling performances was Iao Hok Wong (11) who set a new club 800m record on his way to taking 1st place in the 1500m in 20.00.25s , Highgate Intermediate coach Samir Ahmed-Fernandez “Hok’s swim was outstanding particularly as this is his first competitive 1500 meters.“ Hok also finished first in the 400m IM in 5.59.95s narrowly missing another club record.
Billy Bradley (13), put in some terrific swims medalling in all of his 10 events (seven golds, two silvers and one bronze) and collecting five speeding tickets and setting eight PB’s. In the 400m IM Billy wiped some 9s off his previous time to win in 5.40.93s and in the 200 medley slicing off 5s to win in 2.39.48s, he also recorded 2.15.33s for the 200m freestyle taking nearly 7s off his best time. Brendan Comyn (11) not to be out done collected five speeding tickets and an impressive medal haul – six golds, four silvers and two bronzes. Brendan’s individually medley swimming was particularly notable with a clean sweep of golds in the 100, 200 and 400 meter events in times of 1.25.07, 2.58.16 and 6.12.89 seconds.
Sebastian Bordonnat (14) picked up five medals and a speeding ticket for his 2.34.02s in the 200m IM.
James Slade (11) picked up speeding tickets in the 400m, 200m and 100m freestyle and with 1.10.00s for his 100m freestyle he is a finger nail from breaking the 1.10 barrier.
Dania Gnevko (11) collected two speeding tickets in the 800 and 400m freestyle as well as an impressive four first places.
Others picking up speeding tickets were: Victor Amara (13) 100m freestyle in 1.03.73s (3.91 s PB), Diya Asrani (9) 50m freestyle 38.76 (3.17s PB), Aron Barta (14) 2.34.28s (2.5s PB), Paloma Fredrich (14) 800m 10.2.55s, Nathaniel Gilmour (14) 800m freestyle 10.21.45s, Sergev Gonen Cohen (9) 200m IM 3.24.14s, 43.18s fly (0.96s PB), Rosie Hughes 400m IM 5.30.70s, Indigo Mathews (10) 200m fly 3.13.66s (13.05 PB), 1.17.32s 100m freestyle (6.61s PB), Isabelle Matthews (11) 100m IM 1.32.26s (4.27sPB), Archie Moat (14) 100m IM 1.12.70s (2.63s PB), Yohann Panthakee (10) 200m breast 3.33.96s (13.47s PB) 50m fly 40.52s (1.62s PB), Alex Peake (14) 100m back 1.09.43s (2.58s PB) 200m freestyle 2.15.67s (5.38s PB), Tudor Puszet (13) 800m freestyle 10.07.71 (48.29s PB), William Rittenhouse (13) 200m back 2.32.15s (4.57s PB) and Ally Tully (9) 50m free 38.94s (1.96s PB)
This was a good performance for the club and their young swimmers and shows the strength in depth amongst the competitive squads.
