Sunday evening saw Camden Swiss Cottage swimming club’s junior team (12 years and under) secure promotion from the National Junior Swimming league division 2 in their first season. Coach Gill Muir was delighted with the performance, “The team was outstanding winning 20 of the 49 events and only being placed outside the top 3 in 9 events, …just reward for all their hard work in training.”
Alex Mackay (17), has just returned from France with a Bronze Medal after representing GB in the 5 km French Open Water Cup in Creil near Paris. This excellent result was followed by a 12th place (4th British Athlete) in a 5km sea swim in the French Championships at Roquebrune near Monaco.
Whilst most of us enjoy sunny weather, the extreme heat of a heatwave can be seriously damaging to the health, and can sometimes be fatal. All members of the club are directly influenced by the current warm weather.
How often, one or two days into a training camp or major competition, does a swimmer or coaching/support staff present with a sore throat, nasal congestion, headache, mild fatigue - all symptoms of the common cold or upper respiratory tract infection (URTI) – or maybe with symptoms of gastrointestinal disorders?
